How our sizing works
Bared shoes use European sizing, which has smaller increments between sizes (roughly 0.5-1cm) than other systems. This is why we don't offer half sizes - the European scale already gives a more precise fit than a half-size jump would in US sizing.
How to measure your foot
- Place an A4 sheet of paper against a wall.
- Stand with your heel against the wall and your foot flat on the paper.
- Mark a line level with the end of your longest toe.
- Measure from the heel edge of the paper to the mark, in cm or inches.
- Match this measurement to the size chart above.
Are Bared shoes true to size?
Generally, yes. Once you know your Bared size, it should be consistent across our range. Some styles fit slightly differently due to design or material - where that's the case, we call it out as a Fitting Note on the product page, so always check there for anything style-specific.
Choosing your size
- Repurchasing? Stick with the size you already own, adjusting only if that style has a specific Fitting Note.
- New to Bared? Start with your usual US sneaker size.
- Between two sizes? It depends on your foot width - narrow feet generally do better sizing down for a snug fit; average-to-wider feet usually prefer sizing up.
- Feet swell during the day? Try shoes on in the afternoon/evening when feet are largest, and size up if in doubt - the Fit Kit (below) can snug up the fit later.
Still not sure? Our Customer Service team can help you decide.
Fine-tuning fit with the Fit Kit
The Fit Kit comes with boots, sneakers, dress shoes, loafers and select flat styles, and can add or remove roughly half a size of space - a way to fine-tune fit without needing a different size:
- Removable footbed styles: add a forefoot pad under the insole to take up front space and hold your foot back in the heel.
- Built-in footbed styles: add a gel forefoot pad under the ball of the foot for the same effect.
This is also the fix for heel slipping or your foot sliding forward - usually a space issue at the front of the shoe rather than the wrong size entirely.
Do the shoes stretch?
Our boots won't stretch or lengthen, but the leather will soften and mould to your foot with wear (patent leather excepted, as it holds its original shape and shine). As a size guide, aim for a thumb's width of space between your longest toe and the front of the shoe.
To help leather soften faster: wear the shoes in short intervals at home first, use thick socks to gently stretch and condition them, hand-massage stiff areas, and apply a little leather conditioner to firm spots like the heel.
